UToledo board of trustees selects Dr. James Holloway as 19th president
Dr. James Holloway was named the 19th president of The University of Toledo on May 22, 2025, by the UToledo Board of Trustees following an extensive national search. He will assume the leadership role on July 15, 2025.
Dr. Holloway most recently served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico, where he led efforts to boost student retention, deepen faculty support and expand externally funded research.
A native Midwesterner, Holloway spent two decades at the University of Michigan, where he held roles including vice provost for global engagement and interdisciplinary academic affairs and chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences.
Cenovus Energy Provides $1 Million Gift to Support Student Success
At The University of Toledo, we collaborate with organizations who align with our values and strive to strengthen our future workforce. This is why we are excited to announce a brand-new partnership between UToledo and Cenovus Energy. Cenovus has committed to supporting the University, student scholarships and impactful programs.
As a special acknowledgement of their generosity, the High Bay Atrium, a shared programming and event space in the North Engineering complex, will be named the Cenovus Energy Hub.
Derek Groves, Ph.D. Joins Team as Interim President
The University of Toledo Foundation Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment
of Derek Groves, Ph.D., as the Foundation's interim president effective April 1, 2025.
Groves, a respected nonprofit leader, brings more than 15 years of experience in executive leadership, fundraising and organizational development to the Foundation’s leadership team.
Embracing Innovation to Increase Engagement
The University of Toledo Foundation is introducing the first virtual engagement officer,
Doug Reynolds. Doug, powered by artificial intelligence, is the first of his kind.
Doug will provide touchpoints to alumni, donors and community members who request
information on events, engagement opportunities and other areas of the University.
Doug is an example of UToledo’s pioneering leadership in AI for social good, supporting an innovation that will empower nonprofits worldwide to achieve their life-changing missions.
Day of Giving 2025 Sets New Record
Celebrating the eighth-annual campaign, the 36-hour effort generated 3,882 gifts through
online donations and live event participation leading to $2,102,228. The 2025 campaign
finished strong with a 58% increase in gifts and raised an additional 23% — $389,106
— when compared to the previous year.
Together we continue to make northwest Ohio and the world a better place to live, work and play.
UToledo Foundation Board of Trustees Approves Administrative Fee Changes
November 2024 - At its June 21, 2024 meeting, The University of Toledo Foundation Board of Trustees approved the implementation of an administrative fee for non-endowed gifts to be assessed beginning January 1, 2025.
Currently, the Foundation’s main source of operating support is an annual administrative fee that is assessed on all endowed funds. This fee rate is tiered and begins at 1.4%. The new fee is in addition to the administrative fee and will only be applied to non-endowed gifts.
